I have a 2002 Jetta TDI/Auto that is permanently in the limp mode. I've replaced all the vac lines and pulled the turbo. There is oil in the conduits on the air side of the turbo. I haven't broken-down the turbo yet. If I drive the car like a granny I can milk it up to freeway speed and it cruises OK with cruise and A/C on. No passing oomph or the ability to go faster than 40 mph going over the bridge. I'm thinking the best thing for the car might be getting it squished by a heavily insured trash truck.....Bob

LOL. Or the handbrake "failed" when you were sightseeing on the cliff. When you pulled the turbo, you cleaned it out and all the vanes moved OK? Check fuel and air. There's a writeup for checking permanent low power.

I pulled the turbo and it was clean and loose. No damaged or worn parts. The caution on the T-20 Torx mini-bolts on the turbo plate is very true (two of mine snapped--probably due to no anti-seize used). Swapped N75 with the EGR solenoid and still no movement on the VNT (vac tested OK). Voltage at N75 is +/- 8v. When the key is turned on there is no movement on the VNT. Ran an OBD II scan and got the following codes: P1441, 0245, 0216, 0674 & MIL I/M Monitors: Misfire, fuel, comp, EGR.

I'd like to put a match to "Damien--The Black Omen" but it probably wouldn't burn---with my luck the fire would spread to my house! Does anyone out there have any idea.....when "Damien" ran it was a great commuter..................thanks, Bob

Guys: Thanks for the quick response. Here's more....

1. Did the limp mode thing..........can't get it to reboot.
2. Changed the MAF.
3. Turbo vanes cleaned, inspected and checked free on assembly. Spins freely with no apparent wobble.
4. Swapped the N75 with EGR solenoid. reinstalled N75. Getting less than 8 volts at plug leads at N75. Code P0245 (Turbo Wastegate Solenoid (A) low input/short to ground). VNT actuator rod doesn't move with key on or engine running. VTN actuator holds vac on bench test.
5. Replaced all vac lines...........29" vac.

Question: Could the ECU need to be reprogrammed? Other than no turbo the engine starts and runs fine. If I don't get too lead-footed it cruises OK, but with no oomph. Would this be a good time to get te engine chipped and reprogrammed ?
