Sorry guys, long time lurker, seldom poster. Anyways I have a 2003 ALH that recently blow the turbo. It Grenaded. Metal pieces all through the intercooler. It also caused it to runaway but luckily everything was ok minus the turbo. So I buy a reman from IDparts thinking reman should hold fine for a car I plan to move in a year and also place some decent parts on it versus chinesium. I take the whole intake off and clean it because oil and turbo bits. Bought a new intercooler too because why not. Also got new oil feed line. Changed oil. Primed new turbo. Run car for a few minutes after all said and done thinking awesome.

Not the case. Now it has blown the top hose off the intercooler several times. I suspect the culprit to be the hose clamp instead of the factory spring clamp because I hate those things. But it has lots of oil in the intercooler and using oil which before it never did that.

Also seeing, to me, higher than suspected boost psi around 25 psi.

Could it be a boost leak or blown turbo seals because the too high boost?

Pick below is the reman that looks to have the vanes intact.

I called IDparts and they think it is a boost leak resulting in oil to be pushed through it.

Got any tips?

Forum Rules and Guidelines

This is a new forum layout which is owned by a company last year that doesn't give a dam with loads of bugs which have been reported in the new thread. There is no TDI Wiki at the moment or original similes which they refuse to install. It doesn't show the car spec/location.

Add your car specs to your signature that will show on every post you make.

Car spec now shows not for all members.

This has been talked about many times.

I've made a poll which no one has posted in, there are a few votes and comments.

Do you like the new forum features?

Wiki pages have been restored as of 7th December, I asked where is the link it should be on top of the main forum.

If there's a boost leak, can you get a smoke test? Didn't do it myself, but had it done at a shop recently to identify a boost leak I had.

My lower charge air hose was leaking, so I hacked off the flat snap ring, installed the new hose, and I also replaced it with a hose clamp with no adverse side effect. Just so long as it's not too tight or too loose.

The factory constant tension type clamp should work better.
Right. Replaced that hose clamp with factory spring clamp and it holds. However still have oil leaking through a charge hoses around the intercooler.

I’ll try to test for a boost leak and hope to find the culprit.
