This forum is for all VW Touareg TDI 2004-present and Audi Q7 TDI . There were 2 generations of engines - the Touareg with the V10 twin turbo TDI and Touareg2 and Audi Q7 with V6 TDI.

If there is going to be an Audi A4 TDI in North America with quattro I believe it will have the V6 3.0 "CATA" TDI engine, basically the same one found in the Touareg2 and Q7. This is because the engine is certified for US emissions (still has to be certified for the Audi A4 body), works with quattro, and fits into the engine bay. The other option is the 170hp 2.0L TDI engine found in the Euro only cars. IMHO, this would be slower than the 3.0L TDI but a better choice because there's no other luxury-high fuel economy car. This engine would also work in the Passat's replacement, code named "NMS" (new midsize sedan), planned for 2011-2012-2013ish with TDI engine or a Golf GTD.

Some relevant links to get things started:

some basic FAQ about the CATA engine:

a post where it discusses how Audi currently requires you to go to the dealership to reset the AdBlue fluid level adaptation. You can fill it yourself but the car's computer won't recognize it. AdBlue must not empty or else the engine will not restart once it's shut down. It gives plenty of warning when you get low before it gets into "no start" mode. :

I like to think about getting one but I'm not an SUV guy. The same with the A4 - it's a little on the larger side and too expensive.
