I have stripped down the subframe and sump pan, removed the oil pump and found the driveshaft to the oil pump is worn out, replaced this but need info on re assembling with correct balance shaft timing.
the pump is gear driven
Take a look in the B5 Passat writeup for parts and pictures, your engine is almost identical. You need to insert the balance shaft lock tool from VW with the engine at TDC, then tighten down the shaft.
