Buyer's guide and checklist for the 2010 Audi A3 linked above. Here is what's confirmed about the Audi a3 TDI so far: release date late 2009/early 2010, same 2.0L TDI engine used in the Jetta/Golf, FWD only with s-tronic (DSG) transmission.

The article also includes video reviews, mag reviews, a factory tour where the A3 is assembled, and a comparison with the Golf/Jetta TDI. Also included are a few comments comparing the Audi A3 TDI with the Lexus HS250h, the new small Lexus hybrid also coming out late 2009. This is because the A3 is competing not just with other entry level luxury cars like the Lexus but it's own VW/Audi family like the Golf TDI.

It's in the "8P" directory because this is the chassis name. I can't really call it A3 since mk3 Jettas had this chassis name and it could get confusing. If Audi never releases the Audi A4 TDI then I'll roll any Audi A3 pages into a future mk6 VW directory.

Nice review, I used to watch Motorweek on saturday mornings but you never see it on TV anymore.
I was checking out this car too. Why is it wider if leg room and shoulder room are the same? Does it have wider fenders but not a wider cabin? Is the measuring point different?

Get in a 09 A3 and then get into a 09 Jetta. The body isn't changing and that'll give you the answer.
That car is so sexy! Too bad no quattro. No other reason to buy the Audi over the Jetta wagon since I don't care about a few pieces of leather. I can't believe they don't give free maintenance even when VW does!
Is there any timeline for dealer delivery? Pricing details?
No. Projected sale date is late 2009/early 2010. I will update the page as soon as more details become available.
Good read. It looks like the JSW is not just a better value but the better car! More room, cheaper, touchscreen nav instead of the buttons, free maintenance, what's not to love?

The dealer.
A lot more additional info has also been added like:

exterior dimension comparison between golf, jetta sedan + sportwagen
coefficient of drag comparison
features such as stereo, subwoofer, interior trim, hid headlights
Do you have any more reviews of the Lexus hybrid? Where did the quote come from? If it's not a Prius body then where does it come from?
I forget where the quote came from. The lexus is based off a Euro car called the Toyota Avensis. I have links to diesel resources, if you want to read about the hybrid, see this link

:)
Cool...how did you do that?
Joe, click this to learn how it's done http://lmgtfy.com/ It was funny the first time I saw it:D
Would it be possible to put the power up to the 170 hp engine safely? You say that chip tuning is getting results but I would think you are approching the limits of the original setup, fueling, etc., what differences does the 170 hp engine have to make that much? Or is it just tuning?
FYI, EPA fuel economy numbers for the A3 are 30 city/42 highway. This is the same as the Jetta with DSG transmission which is standard on the A3. The FAQ article is updated.

I looked into why the GTD has 170 hp:There are mechanical differences and software. Vs. the US engine, the injectors, exhaust, intercooler, and turbo are different. Obviously the ECU is different. However, I believe that some of these differences are for US emissions. The injectors on the 140hp vs. 170hp Euro engines are the same but not the same as the 140hp US engine. So I'm not exactly sure what the difference is. Same with the exhaust - the US TDI has a lot of emissions stuff on it.

Now how safe is 170 on the US spec engine? I am not a tuner so I can't say. But I would wait until tuning matures on this engine before putting my own engine to it.
Is it just a rumor? Your link is rumors.automobilemag.com. Base price under 30,000= MSRP of 29,850, lol
The mpg rating seems reasonable, same engine, same transmission, same body but with a little extra length in the trunk, too bad they only have this thing with DSG and FWD,, doesn't make sense.
