I was planning on taking my 05 Passat TDI to Spain Europe, but was told that the BHW engine was not sold in Europe. I also called a friend who lives there and he told me he found a few of my 05 2.0 engines.

Any one know if VW made a 2.0 engine for Europe and a different 2.0 for USA? Or are they all the same?

They are a different engine. If you're going to Europe you should find lots of used 2.0 TDIs to choose from.

BHW was specific to North America only. The Euro 2.0L engines that are similar to the BHW mostly came in manual transmission and around 2005-2006 they switched from gear drive to chain drive. I'm not sure the exact date but there are complaints on Audi boards in Europe about this silent change.

All their 4 cylinder engines are about the same but one thing that wasn't mentioned was that the Passat engine was supposed to be 16 valve but it ended up 8 valve like other US engines.
