I joined here because I was trying to get to the camshaft R&R write up and need membership to view. I have a 2004 Jetta TDI that lost power and started making loud "helicopter noises" on acceleration. I removed the valve cover and checked the cam and it is in sad shape. I bought the cam kit from Dieselgeek and hopefully will find no catastrophic problems under the cam and followers.

I was just looking for some inside knowledge on the R&R procedure and the following cam break-in.

Welcome! FYI, there is the factory method and an advanced only method of removing the camshaft. The factory method requires removing the tandem pump at TDC, the advanced method requires moving the engine away from TDC to make camshaft removal easier.

If you feel confident that you understand the advanced method listed in the writeup, I suggest doing that one since you don't open the fuel system.
