Just want your guys opinion. I have a real nice 2005 Passat tdi wagen with 170,000 miles. What started as a head gasket replacement, has now turned into a cam and lifters replacement.
After reading about all the issues with the balance shaft I dropped the oil pan to find the chain and gears to be in very good condition. The tensioner has all most no wear, with no damage to the aluminum structure holding the tensioner parts. I removed the hex key from the oil pump. I had almost no wear to it. My question is do I get a new key and tensioner and just put it back together or do the balance shaft delete or a gear driven balance shaft. Try to keep the costs down.
