Everyone wants to put out a diesel, when are they getting here? They already have a diesel with renault.

It appears that diesels are poised to be the darlings of Nissan. The Japanese automaker's U.S. arm confirmed on Monday that a clean diesel engine is on tap for the Nissan Maxima in 2010.

Nissan's concept clean diesel engine unveiled in Frankfurt by Alliance partner Renault will be "the basis" for the Maxima's diesel for the U.S. market. Specifications are not yet available for the production version of the engine.

Nissan said the concept is a 3.0-liter V6 dCi that features specially designed air intake ducts to increase combustion speed. Without giving away the ball game, Nissan hints that "particular attention was paid to power output, torque, noise control and respect for the environment, including achieving the rigid Tier2 Bin5 emissions standards in the United States."

What this means to you: Nissan's diesel onslaught in the U.S. will kick off with the Maxima at the end of the decade, with more models likely to follow.

Looking good! They have bad design because they're a French company, employing Japanese designers, who try to think what Americans want.
