I was looking into maybe switching over to the Ams Oil 5w40 European formula. It meets VW standards 505.01, 505.00, and I think 505.02. Has anyone used it before, I know Ams oil is a reputable manufacture of synthetic oil, but I would like to know if its worth dishing out ten bucks a quart.

First off I am an AMsoil dealer and I use DEO in my own personal TDI. European 5-40 is NOT VW approved. That does not mean it isn't a quality oil. However, if you want a quality 505.01 approved oil, I suggest pentosin HP2 or Lubro-Molly High tech Diesel. Napa carries the Lubro-Molly, P/N 2022. Pentosin is available online. Both will cost about the same as the Amsoil.
