Just picked up a 04 Jetta TDI with fuel economy in mind. I have a lengthy commute - and driving my Dodge Cummins everyday was bludgeoning my budget. Exterior on the Jetta is in good condition, runs great, but I have no info whatsoever on previous maintenance. At 125000 miles my primary concern is the timing belt. Without proof to the contrary, I am assuming that the belt has never been changed and have procured a kit with all the requisite parts to replace. Also picked up the camlock tool and am ready to go to work...came across 1/2 of an excellent post on timing belt replacement in this forum and hoping to access the second half...

Welcome! Just read the directions until you understand them and it should like you should be OK. Also refer to the mk4 FAQ for PD engines for other handy DIY. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

FYI 125,000 is way over if it's still on the original belt. Just to be on the safe side, be careful and drive the Doge until the TB is done.
