Hi all,

I am trying to diagnose sudden AC quitting problem with the smell of burning rubber. According to the fuse number 16 that controls AC compressor clutch it also controls the after run coolant pump. Where is this pump, and what are some of the symptoms for bad pump. How can I check this pump?

Is it a burning rubber smell or a hot friction material smell? The AC compressor is engaged and disengaged via an electromechanical friction clutch. Most of my (non VW) AC failures that produced a smell were slipping of the friction material.

A bad coolant pump will cause overheating.

I'm not sure of its location you just have to search for it.

You can check its operation with VAG-COM if you have access to one?
