Hi,

My husband and I are on the hunt for a smaller vintage Airstream--20 foot, 3000 pounds--and I've seen on some other forums that people are able to tow these with a Jetta or Passat TDI wagon. Wanted to get input from all of the TDI gurus here on what you think. I know the Toureg TDI would be ideal, but it's not in our budget (because of buying the Airstream!). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

3000 lbs is too much for a car that weighs only about 3300. You'll be swaying all over the road. You could get a nice Jetta TDI wagon and camp in the back of it with 2 sleeping bags and supplies on the roof :p Or buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee that's 10-13 years old. It'll have no problem towing and you can park it when not needed.

Agreed, if you are over the posted tow limit of the vehicle, you can be charged in the case of an accident. Your insurance doesn't have to cover any damage incurred in any accident either.
