I'm considering upgrading the 9W3 BT module in my 2010 Jetta TDi Sedan with the 9W7 BT module to get the additional functionality. The 9W3 is in metal enclosure, has an external antenna plugged in the side and is secured to a plate under the passanger seat by a metal cover and 3 bolts. Based on the photographs and what I'm told, the 9W7 is in a plastic enclosure, incorporates the antenna and is larger than the 9W3.

My question is, will I be able to install the 9W7 module using the same bolts and plate or do I need to buy additional parts like the styrofoam cover?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You shouldn't NEED any extra parts, to make for a cleaner and more factory install you could obtain the styrofoam cover, but I think you should be able to connect the harness and just use some velcro tape on the underside of the unit to secure it to the floor, or you could try mounting it underside of the seat, but I don't know if the wires are long enough to move with the full range of the seat. I dont think the metal cover from the 3 will fit.

Thanks for the replies.

The plastic housing of the 9W7 appears to have 3 plastic lugs with holes for bolting. These appear like they might match the holes in the cover plate used to secure the 9W3 to the base plate. Am I hoping for too much?

Yes

I have done it, you will not need the metal plate. It will not fit anyways but the bolts will go right into their spots.

What you will need to do is run two additional wires from the Bluetooth to the radio to get stereo sound when streaming music if you want music streaming in stereo.

Also go into vcds ---- 77 Telephone ---- long coding and disable all diagnostics and change the last byte option from 3 button phone to none. (The byte should be 10 I think)

You need to do that since we don't have the overhead Bluetooth buttons, if you don't disable the 3 button panel, the bluetooth module will throw errors when scanned using VCDS even through it will work fine in terms of functionality.

here is more info on it: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a6/9w7-VW-bluetooth-module.htm

I get the DIY parts that I need from this article

My question is the routing the harness, can someone tell me how the existing harness is routed from the Bluetooth to the Radio on a 2010 TDI Sedan? Is the wire going under the carpet or under the door or under the center panel? I can't figure out where the wire is going from the Bluetooth without stripping things apart :)

Don't know, someone said they were going to take step by step pics but they never did. Would you want to so you could help others? It would also qualify for the writeup contest.

I am going to that, was hoping to start with a baseline when it comes to routing the wire :)

will do it tomorrow morning and going to sign up for the write up.
