You already said what you want to do: refresh the suspension and get more power :)

Start with making sure all maintenance is done. I've made a checklist for new owners here: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q_how_to/a3b4/newcheck.htm

This will do all catch up maintenance. For power, a chip + fuel injector nozzles will give you a lot of power. The clutch may slip so start with a chip and see how you like it. Look thorugh the FAQ section "1000q". There are also suspension writeups, I don't know what kind of ride you would like so call the vendors to ask how the shocks will ride.
