There is now a big hole in the bellhousing part of my 2002 Golf TDI. I found a good used transmission that I am going to install. The salesman at the used VW parts place where I got the replacement box told me that caising failiure like this is not uncommon on TDI cars.

Anyone have info on this.

I've read it can happen if the dmf explodes, is that what happened to yours? If the rest of the box is good could you not just bolt on the other bellhousing?:)

The cross shaft in the diff can come out and tear the tranny apart too.
Gives you an excuse for a 6 speed upgrade!
