Hello everyone. Glad to join with you from Southern Saskatchewan, Canada.

We love our TDI Touareg when it works but, we are not certain we will ever get it to running properly again. It was 9 months in the shop (May 2022 through January 2023) having its diesel gate rebuild rebuilt under guarantee. Still not running. New issue that is not under warrantee -- Will not start or even turn over. This is our 4th VW in last 20 years and 3rd TDI. All the others worked well.

To the admins should there be a thread that lists these types of complaints? I am not sure we have on on here. I think if you want change you need to have an avenue to highlight it in a way like Grandpacliff has put it with facts and concerns. It would be hard to manage but could evoke a change like the "Vodafail" thread did for Vodafone customers. I would like to share my story too if it makes a difference.

Questions: What was the reason the car went into the shop in the first place--what was it doing/not doing? What was the explanation why nine months in the shop? Did it ever run after the 9 months in the shop?

The DEF pump went out and a new one was not available. After about 3 months a new DEF pump became available. The car sat in the VW lot. When the pump was put in, a series of items that eventually included every piece including the intake manifold(once) and the EGR system (3 or 4 times) that had been replaced or adjusted under the EPA mandated diesel-gate rebuild. We drove the Touareg less than 200 km over the next months. Most of the time the vehicle never left the VW shop as something else would stop working as soon as the shop drove it to test the new part or adjustment. We requested that VW consider purchasing the Touareg from us. They refused even though they had over $10,000 in vehicle rentals and at least 20 to 30 thousand in parts and labor by this time. In January we were informed that the Touareg tested fully repaired so, after VW refused to consider a buyback, we took possession of the Touareg. It still had about 30,000 km or November of 2024 warrantee from the diesel-gate rebuild. We then put less than a thousand KM on the Touareg when a steering fault appeared on the dash and the engine will not turn over at all now. This issue does not appear to be under the warrantee and may cost over $2000 to replace one or two sensors in the steering column. We are working with a mechanic and VW Tech person to try to pinpoint the problem and any possible work arounds.

Wow. I'm not familiar with Touareg specifically, but to me a problem with the steering wheel followed by no start suggests something with the immobilizer, a security feature. There is a site online for Touareg owners, you might check for any similar experience. Good luck.

I bought my 2013 at 112K. We are about to hit 150k. It has been solid. I do have a minor oil leak that I am tracking down, but the motor and trans have been solid otherwise. My driver's door window switch is intermittent, and I broke the sun visor friction hold, so it hangs straight down if I don't clip it up. I will eventually grab some replacement parts from ebay, I just have not yet.

Grandpacliff, You have warranty running so it is a bit tricky for you. Weird sensor problems are often related to ground problems which affects sensors. Check main battery ground and also see if you can find the grounds for the dash / body computers which are generally brown wires and they will be connected to the chassis. Any corrosion on the ground points will affect the sensors readings. Find somebody with VCDS and get them to scan it and give you an independent assessment of where the fault code appears to be coming from. I had an immobiliser issue that was traced back to a bad ground after much money spent. Check main battery ground and also see if you can find the grounds for the dash / body computers which are generally brown wires and they will be connected to the chassis.

Hello Grandpacliff, I imported a 2005 T5 California camper from Germany. A great vehicle, but as VW never brought these into North America there is no (virtually) help or parts sources domestically. In developing parts sources, I've found many suppliers in Latvia, Lithuania and the Czech Republic that can furnish OEM parts more quickly than VW Canada and at considerably cheaper prices. Good luck with your Taoureg problems. My T5 has the 5 cylinder engine and shares a number of parts with the V10 diesel. Cheers, Doug
