I just bought a 2012 Jetta TDI not running and found the timing way out, no compression so bought a low 60k km engine, most of the videos I have seen show mechanics pulling off the entire front end, my question here is can I drop the engine from the bottom? what is the easiest way to do this engine swap? I have a car hoist and engine hoist, pretty much most tools a shop has, anyone do this like that?, how many hrs is this job?, I have 2 engines to replace, one with valve issues and one with bottom end issues, hopefully someone has some info here, if not I will post my findings

Well for the most part it looks as though I can drop through the bottom, most videos I have seen they pull the entire front end off, I assume its because they dont have a hoist, read a Passat thread where they said its quickest to drop out the bottom, anyone know how similar the Jetta and Passat are with respect to Engine R&R ??
