2010 Jetta TDI Tax refund????

I was just wondering if the $1300 refund is still availible on sales after 1/1/10? i WAS TOLD TWO DIFFERENT ANSWERS AT TWO DEALERSHIPS . Does it go for the first 60,000 units they sell or by 1/1/10 date

Yes. It's a fed income tax CREDIT. It ends two calendar quarters after they pass 60,000 sales and has nothing to do with the end of the year. They may have been thinking of the state tax sales DEDUCTION for your federal income tax in some states. It's not a refund.

VW hasn't released sales numbers so I estimate them here. Here are some charts and details on how the tax credit works and forms you may need. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/TDItaxcredit.htm

From my estimates, I believe the fed income tax credit $1300 or $1700 will end 6/10.

This is correct. The IRS says when it officially ends. Some sales people barely even know how to sell cars. They might be lying or confused to pressure you into buying now but that doesn't make any sense since it's already past the 1st!

The confusion might be on the timing. You can still buy a TDI and claim the deduction, but it will now have to be on your 2010 taxes (which you will likely file in 2011).

Ask them for the reference and that will clear it up pretty quickly. I think the answer you are looking for is yes, it's still available until the IRS says it's not.
