Hi Diesel Fans,
anybody has the best and most economical solution for this oil presure issue? my mechanic is saying the worst case scenario, replacind the oil pump with the new gear system will cost me around $1600 just the parts (the dealer quote).
Do you now any other sources?
Plus around $500 the labor.

Never spend so much on a repair. Why is not a recall yet?

Thanks. Happy diesel miles.

Not a recall because the car won't catch on fire and VW doesn't want to take responsibility on this one. There aren't enough people making noise even though it's a well knwon problem.

The oil pump can be had a little cheaper if you buy it yourself and bring it to the guy. $500 for labor is dirt cheap. In Canadian dollars too :D

There should be some links to online vendors who sell the part. You will want to do a full timing belt job at the same time unless it was just done.

You could always ask the local dealer to split the cost with you, some have been known to give 1/3 discount off their retail pricing.
