I have a 2005 Passat TDI with 51K miles on it. Recently, the car has been “missingâ€￾ under acceleration. If it was internal combustion I would suspect ignition wire, distributor, plus, etc. but its not , its a TDI. I did have an egr fault which occurred after the problem started. Cleaning the egr removed the fault but not the problem. The “missâ€￾ occurs under constant acceleration, mostly between 45 and 70 and dissapears if the turbo kicks in. I’ve changed fuel and even added a cetane booster to no avail. The local VW dealer wanted $1000.00 to replace the EGR valve so I'm reluctant to take it there. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It could be a boost leak. The rubber hoses going to and from the metal air tube in the lock carrier can rub against the ground wires. If they are starting to wear through it will cause bucking and smoking. The hose connections can also wear down or pop off. I would start there. There's a writeup in the FAQ on boost leak testing.

Any other codes?
