Hi everyone,
I had a turbo charger blow out last night on my 04 Golf Tdi with 116,000. I was driving down the highway and heard a loud pop and then lost power and a huuuuge plume of white smoke come out of my exhaust. I drive moderate in this car - to/from work and some long distance highway travel.

Dealership says bad turbo charger flat out and it will cost $2200 to replace. They say their guy has 20yrs of diesel experience. They gave me 2gran in trade in value! Can you believe that? I'm insulted!

What do you guys think? Should I pull the car from the dealership and do the repairs myself? How hard is replacing the turbo? I'd consider myself pretty handy and I have a nice 2 car garage to do the work. I just replaced brakes on this Golf and a 00 Golf...had to do calipers and caliper bracket too.

Thanks,
/Chris C
