Why are these always failing? Is it just that they're exposed to salt and water?

2002 Jetta TDI
Everything i own is Diesel
I have a 2002 jetta and a 2010 jetta and a 2008 Branson tractor
on the 2002 i have done the following
replaced the rear bushings and shocks
replaced the abs sensors on the rear
replaced the rear pads and rotors
on the front i have replaced the shocks and springs and balljoints ans pads
on the engine i have replaced the timing belt and water pump
the Jetta has 340,000 KM that is just over 200,000 miles
on the interior i have installed heated leather power seats.
current problems as of today is that the vnt acturator will have to be replaced
just check it and the acturator will not hold vacum. off to the parts store to change it
on saturday morning.
