I have a VW Jetta 2001 with a TDI. My timing belt recently failed and bent two valves in the cylinder head. All is good until i read the timing belt installation instructions and it says to move the crankshaft 30mm using a special tool on the flywheel while the engine is removed. There has to be another way. help me

If the engine is in the car just jack up a front wheel, put the car in 5th and turn the wheel or is it an auto? Are you trying to line it all up to put the belt on or the head? :)

Another way to what? When installing the timing belt you take it off at TDC and install it at TDC. There should be no need to move the crankshaft while installing the new belt until you're done and double check everything.
