Trying to resurrect my dad’s old car. It needed a new clutch 10 years ago and he never completed the project. He recently finally allowed me to take over the car/project as he is getting too old for greasy hands.

New clutch is in along with fresh belts and fluids. When I backed the car out of my shop, the transmission popped out of reverse after about 3 feet of travel. I had no issue putting it back in reverse; however, it did the same thing. Driving forward does not seem to be a problem. Also when the wheels are off the ground, no load, it stays in reverse just fine. I double checked the transmission fluid, it’s full.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this issue? Thanks.
