I agree. Every time the law requires cars to get more fuel efficient or cleaner the engineers do their thing. Of course car companies don't want to do it because it costs money to do work. This cost is passed onto the consumer but don't think that if cars were cheaper they would pass any savings onto the customer. Some large SUVs had 8-10,000 in gravy during the boom. Easy profits led them down the path to bankruptcy.It's pretty good that the current 4 cylinder TDI is slightly powerful and cleaner then their 6 cylinder TDI from only 12 years ago. Great progress.
