I bought a demo engine (partially funded with donations http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/f9/help-support-grow-myturbodiesel-your-donation-8567/) to illustrate timing belt removal. Making the writeup + video took 2 weeks so your support is much appreciated! The video was a lot more work than I expected to get the quality I wanted...they don't make 2 hours movies in 2 hours! There were crickets in the background but upon playback they were louder than my narration! To make it usable, I removed the crickets using audio spectral analysis.

The engine shown is a CJAA but the CBEA belt replacement procedure is identical. Here's the removal article: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a6/jetta-jsw-tdi-timing-belt-replacement.htm Please sign up to the site and make an intro post or ask a question to view part 2: installation

If you have any questions or comments about the actual procedure, please put them at the end of part 2: installation because this procedure applies to multiple generations/models and posting in 1 place will keep it organized. If you have any more tips or corrections to the article, please post a follow up!

Some major differences vs. the manual? I suggest not removing the fuel lines and just working around them if possible. This avoids having to use VCDS to bleed them. The manual suggests tightening the HPFP sprocket after you've turned over the engine. This will put the index tab way off so that is a mistake in the manual. Also, the manual lists the old torque spec for the 18mm motor mount bolts. The newer torque spec is a little more accurate and may help avoid stripping the aluminum mount threads.

No, as long as the pin and tool go in after turning over the engine during the final checks, it should be correct. The older engines were the same but in those cases you could read something in VCDS to adjust it.

Hey chitty, thanks for the awesome writeup!

I'm looking to replace my belt this weekend and would be happy to amend the DIY for a CVCA
but am having trouble finding the installation section. I've seen mention of a premium membership requirement, but must be blind because I can't find any links within the forums/profile/wiki to upgrade my account.

EDIT: I found it! For anyone else that might stumble in here, the upgrade link is at the bottom of the link in the OP above. For some reason it was cut out of the writeup that is accessed from the wiki. Or heck, right here: https://www.myturbodiesel.com/account/upgrades
