This is probably a misbadging or test car but I would be all over this thing. I say misbadging because some Tiguans were supposedly delivered with TDI badging when they were only 2.0L engine. Typical VW parts mixing?

It's a misbadging. There's no reason a test car would be at a dealer lot with the protective white stickers on it.
That looks like a new car period, I didn't know they had an A4 station wagon.
Yes but again, it's probably a misbadged car. I don't think they would have a test car sitting at a dealer. You can still see the plastic covers on the seats and protective white stickers on the outside. That car is ready to be delivered to a customer.
If it were real why would anyone buy a gas station wagon? Station wagons and SUVs are for utility not performance, a diesel just makes more sense.

Because it's what they want? Or until now, there haven't exactly been a lot of diesel station wagons. I agree with SUVs though, sport SUV is an oxymoron.
From those angles it looks like an A3. The sloping rear hatchback doesn't give it a traditional wagon look.
