Replaced the timing belt on a 1Z with 265,000 miles. Found the Crank Sproket had worn the flat spot down and was able to rock back and forth until the flat one sproket turned into a point. This is what must have been causing my hard start and poor performance. I used a new crank bolt as I should have on an earlier timing belt replacement

Good catch......this was a common problem on the pre 1996 engines, it's disappointing to hear that it may be a problem on newer ones.

Are you saying that you removed the crankshaft sprocket bolt before? It's not necessary to remove it at all during the TB replacement.

Also, post moved to mk3 section.
