soo i aquired a new vehicle last weekend, seeing as my 97 passat has a knock. needed an efficient car for school because gas was killing me at 160 a week, 600 miles a week. you cant beat the tdi's, or not the straight diesels. the price was right with 124550 miles. second owner, parked every winter, a tiny shred or rust under a whiper arm, paint is beautiful, 2 sets of wheels. paid 1500 for it and have no regrets. started going through it to see what it needs and make it reliable, or more than it already is. i noticed a steel coolant line that appears to come from a rubber line going through the firewall into the heater core. this line is severely rusted and flaking hardcore. there was a bend in it that i think gave out in the past and it was fixed by a shitty cut piece of rubber hose and few hose clamps. i would like to replace this ASAP and was wondering if there are any pictures of this line with maybe a part number? it follows the side of the motor, on the drivers side, snakes down and is sort of pinched or flattened out right next to the oil filter, and looks like it goes directly into the water pump. any input would be great. i was also wondering if there are any other good wear compnents that would be due for replacement at this time. it came with all the origional manuals and service records which were performed at local vw dealers in mass and r.i. so the car was well take care of. 4 yeasrs after being purchased the recorded miles at the scheduled maint. was just under 30K. i figured a fresh fuel filter, oil change, air filter, and possible a cabin airfilter, but it is unknown to me if a vehicle this year even has one. i located a complete, 2 axle brake kit with rotors drums pads shoes and hardware from vwpartsplace.com fairly cheap so im doing the entire brake system over. anything else that i missed? thankyou, justin.
