My 06 tdi jetta had a small fire on the braided wire for the starter. After changing the starter upon trying to start the car there was no firing of the engine. Car cranks easily but no glow plug light, no check engine light and the PRNDS lights are flashing on the dash. I am completely stuck trying to figure out what to fix.

First posts normally go in introductions else you could get a free fix and we never see you again!!!

Forum Rules and Guidelines

This is a new forum layout with loads of bugs which have been reported in the new thread. There is no TDI Wiki at the moment or original similes. It doesn't show the car spec/location or signature properly either

We Are Live - Community Feedback

This has been talked about many times.

I've made a pole which no one has posted in, there are a few votes and comments.

Do you like the new forum features?

Wiki pages have been restored as of 7th December, I asked where is the link it should be on top of the main forum.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

There is really no such thing as a small fire in an engine bay given the compactness of the compartment and the plethora of wires running around. There are wire bundles which run through the starter area. I would suggest visual inspection of all wires. And I would not power the system until I was certain none were fused to other wires inappropriately.

The fire could have damaged the harness to the mechatronic causing the flashing PRNDS. Check the connection. It’s just above the starter I believe. If that’s not the case, you need a mechatronic and glow plugs?

The main wiring harness passes next to the starter. You are going to carefully pull the cover from this harness, and check each wire in this harness. The glow plug light being absent may also be a clue. You have lost the signal from the water temperature sensor. This wire is in the main harness, and it runs right next to the starter.
