VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
It would start possibly, however, it would lose prime every time and cause difficult starting. For $1000 you really can't go wrong... Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk

  4. Flywheel not centered over bolts?

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
I have a South bend came with a Sachs friction pad. I look around on the tdi specific sites and base judgement on them. Random internet reviews seen to deal more with gassers and I drive a diesel with a lot more torque... Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk
  5. Flywheel not centered over bolts?

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
If the pressure plate and friction pass are in good enough condition there should be no harm, other than having to take it apart again sooner. A single mass will Outlast the car. Just need to resurface the plate with a new friction pad install. My buddies use a rotary tool with an abrasive pad...

  7. Flywheel not centered over bolts?

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
It's a dual mass flywheel and they tend to wear. This allowed movement and it got used to being moved in the direction of the greatest force. There's a lot of posts with similar pictures and people asking how to get them off. You should be able to stick the point of a spud wrench into the head...
  8. BHW Oil Pan Installation

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
Yes, tighten it up by hand to let the sealant spread and then let it set for a couple hours. Then go back and use the Bentley method to torque it. You want to leave about 1/16th all around for sealant to set in creating a better gasket. It doesn't have to be exact, a loose screw driver tighten...

  10. Thermostat or temperature gauge malfunctioning?

Sensor, or wiring. The thermostat would stick open but the sensor would read it. Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk
  11. 5th gear lost manual transmission

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
The short shifter. It looks like, and is, a big weight. Read the following also https://www.idparts.com/shifter-tower-bushing-repair-kit-a4-p-2281.html Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk
  12. 5th gear lost manual transmission

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
Only thought I had was the great getter bushing. It will need with first and fifth. Unfortunately I think it's the assembly that goes into the trans, or the trans itself. The great getter bushing doesn't seem to cause it getting stuck in gear, just hard to get out. Check the weight and see if...

  14. No power @ 3000RPM WOT

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
Disconnecting the maf is to diagnosing more than the maf. This method is to check the intake sensor system. The maf is before the EGR and there is a sensor after, somewhere. If the car runs better without the maf plugged in this shows that there is an error within this system. The intermittent...
  15. Is there a relay in the cabin light circuit?

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
Honestly sounds like a bad wire behind the fuse box. They sell repair wires for this issue. To localize the issue you need to do some resistance tests on wires. Electrical issues are a PITA. I would start by cleaning all the grounds you can find. Curious if anything else is wacky at the same time.

  19. AHL timing belt questions

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
I have done the timing belt without that tool a couple of times. it holds the crank still. You can use a soapstone to mark the flywheel and the block to see the placement without having to look at the crank. Honestly it is more important to lock the cam and the fuel pump, those are much easier...
  20. Starter won't stay engaged during hard cold starts

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
A few things come to mind on this. First thing I would check are the grounds and the starter grounding is included! Second is electrical, either the ignition switch, relay, or the ECM. I have read about the ECM sockets needing re-soldered, mostly on the 1999. My first move would be to run a...
