  1. What's the magic trick to reinstall that passenger motor mount?

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
On the ALH engines (1999.5-2003 in North America), if you take off the inlet pipe to the turbo (from the air cleaner hose across the back / top of the engine), then the engine mount is easily accessed... I know that the BEW belt is wider, but perhaps this may help..
  2. BEW engine health check?

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
The big problems with this engine are: the camshaft/lifters, the turbo with its integrated boost controller, the glow plug system, and the decrease in performance of the injectors. It looks as if you've addressed most of those, so... I'd say that the car should have plenty of life... a...

  6. Replace Headbolts 1 by 1?

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
A general guideline is that a lubed bolt torque rating is equal to something like 30% higher "dry"rating (not exact by any means...) so if the torque value is meant for a lubed bolt and you torqued it dry, you're quite under the spec...
  7. Replace Headbolts 1 by 1?

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
The torque values are directly tied to whether the fasteners are supposed to be "dry" or lubricated... that some people "get away" with doing things the wrong way doesn't mean that those procedures should be followed...
  8. 02 jetta issuessss

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
Yes, the actuator can be fairly stiff on some cars... the way to test it would be to use a vacuum pump (Mity-Vac or imitation)... as well, there's a VCDS (Vag-Com) output test that "exercises" the actuator... that will occasionally loosen slightly-sticking actuators...
  9. change fuel filter

Mk5 VW Jetta, Sportwagen, and Audi A3 TDI forum
You do NOT want to run the risk of having the high-pressure fuel pump operate without fuel (= lubricant) in it... Y.
  10. Sucked up water

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
Compression test... (through the glow plug holes - sometimes a precarious undertaking with PD engines - using a Diesel - rated compression tester...) It may be possible to have your insurance cover this... (you'll need the proper type of coverage, and an "official" diagnosis...)
  11. jetta MK4 5 speed to 6 speed gearbox conversion kit

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
UhOh - I assume you don't live in the rust-belt... we love our 2003 TDIs, but the bodies are rotting away at this point... I'm not sure how much longer we can keep them running...
  12. HELP BHW TDI LOST TIMING (2005 Passat TDI)

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
I've tried it... you get an approximation, but it's not 100% accurate (or, even close to 100%)... suitable for "old-school" mechanics who do things by feel... (the glow plugs go in at an angle... a better option would be to use an injector hole (they go in "straight" - in combination with a dial...

    General Diesel Discussion
There are a few TDI specialists in your area, but... I'm not sure how much experience they might have with a Touareg engine, as there just aren't that many around... Try these: http://www.dspauto.com/ https://www.tdiguy.com/ http://www.vwrepairarlington.com/ They all have good...

  15. power handling of auto trans?

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
Many people just go to .205 nozzles and call it a day... that said, getting a proper rebuild and balancing (flow rate equalization) is also beneficial, although that increases the cost substantially... make sure you get nozzles from a reputable source... some of the cheapo suppliers' parts can...

  17. jetta MK4 5 speed to 6 speed gearbox conversion kit

VW Mk4 Jetta, Golf, New Beetle, Passat TDI forum
Just throwing some cold water on this... keep in mind that your car is now over 16 years old... how much money do you want to throw at it? (Yes, I have friends who have done similar things to even older cars - a 1997 TDI Passat Wagon... but those cars are "special"...)
