Sidemarker light removal-mk4 Jetta, Golf, or Passat
How to remove the sidemarker light on mk4 Jetta, Golf, or Passat
This article shows how to remove the sidemarker lights without removing the bumper.
This applies to all mk4 Volkswagen Jetta, Golf, and Passat. It can be used if the light bulb burns out or if you want to smoke the lens or replace it with a clear lens. Always check your local laws for lens and bulb color regulations before modiying it.
For mk5 or mk6 VW Golf or JSW (Golf wagon), see 1000q: mk5 - mk6 side marker lens removal. You can push the front of the lens in to remove it but it's not the correct way to get it off and you might break the tab.
Push the front edge of the sidemarker light in. You have to push it in far enough for the spring catch to hold. Then push the entire light towards the front of the car. This will release the tabs at the rear of the light. Once the tabs at the rear are clear, lift the rear out first. The rest of the light will then slide out.
Here you can see the tabs and the spring loaded front. The bulb socket pulls straight out.
