Whats this for?

    Ok I'm not a novice but not an expert either. I usually do my own oil changes with a extraction pump. But the other day mine wouldn't work so i decided to pull the drain plug.

    While i was down under the car I saw what looks like a filter cover the same as the oil filter.

    I grabbed the attached image from this site with a "whats this" just under the filter? in question since i didn't take a pic of it.

    Can anybody identify?

    That's the bottom of the fuel filter. DO NOT remove that cover.

    mmm so there's two fuel filters? cause I have replaced mine before and its on the top right at the front on the TDI

    I am sure that it is not a fuel filter.
    That thing looks more like the underside of the oil cooler for the engine.

    It's part of the lower oil filter housing, no need to remove that.


    Lol excuse the dirty oil stains not had the time to clean the engine, well it needs a new timing belt etc soon so I will do it all the

    Sorry, I meant to say oil filter. In either case, don't remove that cover!

    this is on top of the DSG, under the hood, with the battery removed. Also missing in this photo are the air cleaner and part of the clean air intake path

    Ah, I didn't realize the filter was on top of the DSG. Good to know.
