Ever since I purchased my MKVI Golf TDI three months ago, my only gripe was the radio which would play music through bluetooth as soon as my iPhone connected despite whether the radio itself was on or off.

I am not sure whether it is the radio's or phone's software issue, however at least I have found a hack that helped with this. It is not pretty as unfortunately, this process requires to jailbreak the iPhone, which leads to potential problems with its warranty.

If you are not worried about this then:
    1. Follow the jailbreak guide at lifehacker.com
    2. In the Cydia store which will be added by jailbreak process, find and install Bluetooth Service Manager.

Bluetooth Service Manager will let you turn off A2DP, which means your radio will no longer play music off the iPhone, but it will still work as a handsfree unit.

Please remember that jailbreaking is still somewhat risky process, so before you attempt it, do some research about its implications. It would be still a much better solution to have RCD510 not autoplay from external sources.
