Well, another mystery of VW parts is solved. The ad brochures for the 2012+ VW Passat say it has intermittent wipers, however, some people say it does not have rain sensing wipers. The rain sensor is clearly visible, it's the thing the rear view mirror is attached to. The sensor is also used for automatic headlights which is enabled from the factory. As it turns out, the rain sensing function of the sensor is probably disabled from the factory. If you don't want it, you're all set. If it's enabled and you want it, leave it alone. If it's not enabled and you want it, below is the procedure.

Use your VCDS tool, go to CECM (central electric) module, enter long coding for the RLS (rain-light sensor), and unclick the checkbox for "Rain sensor inactive". Save and exit. It will now be active.

Here is how to do it: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/b7/vw-passat-auto-wiper-activation.htm

.......and it's done. I have updated the first post with the details on how to do this. I am still putting together a DIY list for the NA Passat, will update when done.

I did mine yesterday and it definitely works. Thanks for the info. Now if we can get the windows via remote up and down I will be stoked.

I tried to do the comfort remote but couldnt' get it to work. The checkbox is there but it does nothing. Perhaps this might change in the future with different control modules or software updates but for now, it doesn't work. To make all windows go up-down, you can hold the driver's window button with the door open.

I also heard talk of the rain sensor having the ability to auto-close windows/sunroof. Anyone test this yet?

I tried as well but mine doesn't work either. I sent my auto scan to Ross Tech with hopes that they might be able to figure it out soon.

Yes, I just finished the video and the writeup, http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/...-passat-tdi-sel-vcds-mod-vag-com-trick-10390/ see this post for any questions and support on that article.

Nice meeting you TDICT, if you happen to leave the windows open for more than a day, please let me know if the windows close by themselves. I am interested to know if this is also the case on the Passat. It should but you never know!

How can I get it done on my TDI SEL?
Anybody that does this service in North Texas?
    I really appreciate our help.

Don't know anyone in Texas but asking here is a start.

To do it, read the linked article. All the steps are in there, you don't want to see a 5 minute blurry video of a laptop screen anyways, the video is only the demo.

Just activated Rain Sensing Wipers. Works great, now if there were only some rain to tweak sensitivity.

Off topic, does anyone know the location of the DPF values on the 2012 Passat TDI?

Now these Rain Sensing Wipers must have the rain sensor behind the interior mirror to work. If its there why aren't they enabled as standard?

Nobody knows. My only guess is that it's related to the pre delivery inspection and not changing the transport settings. There are a few changes that they have to make when the deliver the car. But I don't think this is it because VW's spec sheet doesn't say rain sensing wipers, only intermittent wipers.

You will need the VCDS software to activate. I can do it but would not assume any liability from changing your cars setting from factory.
