Just wondering if any rumors have started circulating about when VW will convert the American Passat production to the just announced EA288 diesel? 190 hp & 280 lb/ft of torque in the 2.0 seems like an impressive jump.

Autoguide is wrong because they "paraphrased" car and driver which was also wrong. When you plagiarize bad writing you still have bad info :D

The replacement for the US spec 2.0L engine isn't known but the replacement for the current 138/140hp Euro spec engine will have 150 hp and 238 torque. So 10 more hp, same torque. My guess is that they'll use that engine in the US but nobody knows if it'll come in the Passat. I doubt anytime soon because the new engine series is supposed to come in the mk7 Golf after the A3. www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/f27/2013-audi-a3-tdi-specs-official-pictures-13768/ Read my thread here on the new Audi A3 TDI for the long answer and correct info.

So to answer the OP's question, no rumors yet but logic would say that the Passat won't get a new engine until the chassis is revised to the MBQ. They could just as easily make it fit so it could honestly go either way. They changed the mk4 engines due to tightening emissions so it could happen. Plus, the next Audi A4 is supposed to get the 2.0L engine and they could try to make the 190 hp version pass US emissions which would open it up to other models.
