Regarding Mobil 1 synthetic oil, would the (5-40) truck lubricant, also Mobil synthetic, provide the best engine lubrication for a 2003 1.9 diesel? My understanding is that the truck oils have extreme pressure additives such as zinc that would be harmful to exhaust converters. Can this oil be used? Thanks, Dean

I'm always looking for a cheaper alternative to Pentosin and Titan VW approved German oils. American oils just don't meet VW specs. I just hope the more expensive German oils lube and protect the cam shaft lobes better than cheaper American oils.

I use 5W30 full synthetic Castrol from Walmart it is $23-26 for 5quarts and never had any problems and change it every 5000

I also used regular 5W30 on my Mercedes 250D in winter and 20w50 in summer and never had any problems.
