OK got a chance to work on the Jetta again tonight and got the exhaust and intake both off and I took the EGR cooler off and it's full of "mud" I wasn't loosing water with the car that I am aware of anyway but this is very wet inside.

Maybe condensation from the cooler doing it's job?

gross...if not losing coolant it's condensation.

yaa im not sure thats normal. mine didnt look like that from what i remember. do you do a lot of short trips, maybe like chitty said condensation.. car might not be warming up completely and water is condensing in the exhaust system.

I think I might would replace the EGR cooler. It looks like it is starting to go bad. I have had many off of different diesels from VW's, to Cat, Cummins, Detroits, and Powerstrokes and they don't look like that on normal wear. They will be BLACK coated with soot when they stop up.
