Hi |Folks, Anyone considering taking the compensation and having the emissions correction. Is there any definitive information out there regarding the effect that the emissions changes will have on current fuel economy?

I got my 2015 Passat SE TDI manual done last Thursday, as of this posting, seven days and the car runs smoothly. I did notice a slight diesel smell for the first time. It may have been another vehicle, but I noticed the smell.

The newer models (2015s and up) have a fix available now; it is 2 part and is supposed to have no effect on performance or economy. The older generation cars are not fixable yet, they are still working on it.

Car without DEF or CANBUS probably will not be able to be fixed.

I have thought about that but with the mileage, wear and tear and the knowledge that the dealer has all the 2016 dead inventory on the back lot that will get the same fix and be sellable, it make more sense to complete the buyback of the 2015 with 30,000 miles then buy a 2016 with zero miles and no parking lot dinks.

I just had the high pressure fuel pump go on mine at 58000 miles. It was replaced with no problems under warranty. However, when I got it back there was a diesel smell that lasted for several days and has dissipated. This was due to the replacement of the fuel injectors and rail. This is probably what they did in the modification of the system I suspect.

Just for your information, my daughters TDI, identical model, experienced the same problem at approximately the same mileage give or take a 1000 to 2000 miles.
