Someone asked how to disable the tire pressure monitor TPMS system. On the VW Golf they have a software reflash that corrects some settings which was discussed here:

FMVSS 138 which regulates TPMS systems in the US.
The TPMS system is required on new vehicles after 2007.
The system must work as OEM with the light off on new, untitled vehicles. This means that the seller of a new, untitled vehicle cannot put on aftermarket wheels without sensors or sell a car with a bad TPMS senso/has a light on.
After that, it's perfectly legal on a federal level to have a system with the light on because the TPMS sensors failed (it would be a warranty issue), the sensors were removed, or the system does not work.
It's not legal to operate the vehicle if the system is disabled or disable the TPMS warning light for the life of the car. This means that you can remove the sensors or ignore a bad sensor but you can't shut off the system or disable the light.
There may be more state or local regulation regarding the TPMS system.
2009-2010 VW Jetta TDI, 2010+ Golf TDI, and 2009+ VW Sportwagen (JSW or Golf wagon GSW) all use an actual sensor in the wheel which looks like below: Some readings with VCDS are in the FAQ article above.
The 2011 VW Jetta switches back to the system found on 2006-07 Jetta where it estimates tire pressure off the ABS sensors. If one wheel's rotating diameter is less than the others, the car assumes that it's low.
