Default Timing belt

I am changing my timing belt and the directions say to remove the camshaft sprocket. Could you tell me the reson for that?

It's not removing so much as slackening it off so it can move as you tension the belt up, you lock the cam at the other end with a special tool first and the crank and the injector pump.
