Default Ran over a Metal Bar

My poor Golf is in the shop after I ran over a metal bar that caused my fuel tank to leak. The total cost for repairs will be $2000.

That's rough. Hopefully it won't have to be in the shop long. Is insurance not covering any of it? Granted the Panzer plate guards the front undercarriage of the engine but for reasons like yours is why people get them, could have been worse. I hope your back on the road soon.

Insurance probably would but we just switched to a new insurance so didn't want to use it for this since it isn't too costly. I feel like everytime we talk to the dealer he finds another issue that needs fixing. We are at
fuel tank replaced
fuel tank cover
fuel pump
hose

I cannot agree with your statement, ""it isn't too costly"! $2000 for a Plastic Fuel Tank & Cover is outrageous.

My father, who was an engineer, would have exploded had he been alive to see some of the prices for parts... he knew what the real cost was to manufacture things because of his training and he would call his contacts in other aspects of the biz if he didn't know himself. And those were prices from the early 2000s, my impression being they've gotten worse.

$700 for a pair of tail lights? $1,000 for a cast wheel? And now $2,000 for a gas tank + install.

I suspect this just confined to VW, of course.
