I have a 2000 Passat 1.8T that has a problem i think with the instrument cluster . it also wont start IE it starts then shuts down ( maybe immo ) but it also doesnt have the yellow car with the key in it symbol in the cluster ( i stripped the clocks off to check ) the cluster itself doesnt do much either , i get ign lights and a few others flickering when i put the ign on , none of them stay on though the flicker as if there is a power problem . i have also noticed it has or had a short or power problem on a red wire leading out of the CCM under the passanger floor ( UK car so right hand drive ) this wire looks like its overheated at one point and melted some plastic or has been trapped as it has bare wire showing other symtoms are the remote locking doesnt work . i have a snapon solus pro scanner not sure if this is good enough to do any adaptions if i can at all ( VW tells me it has to go there ) thx |

Have you not managed to pull any fault codes from it? I'd try that first.

Thx for the welcome
P1570 was the code for the ecu lock im reading it again atm but i made the mistake of letting the scanner do a auto diagnose and its taking ages lol what i can add is that the scanner will not communicate with the instroment cluster or the immo ( seperate or not seperate in the snapon list ) not sure if it has one though as no pic of car with the key through it is in the dash facia |

Well that code means:
VAG Error Code: 17978 EOBD II Error Code: P1570 Fault Location: Engine control module (ECM) - immobilizer active Possible Cause: Incorrect/damaged key. Incorrectly coded. Engine control module (ECM)/Immobilizer replacement without coding. Wiring. Immobilizer defective. As taken from my Free EOBD II Error Codes software

i think my next step should be try another cluster , there is one locally cheap i can get so i will get that and see if it lights up as mine now just flickers quickly then goes off ( nothing in the LCD screens too )
at least then i will know if the cluster is dead or not . then i will need to adapt it in i guess oh i bought the car like this so cant comment on how it started |

doh my bad , the damm thing does have the immo symbol in the dash lol dnno how i missed that before
![]() cleared all codes ( had a few from ign on with no dash plus it flattened battery ) tried to start again and just came up with the P1570 again , so i will try the other dash and see what happens ( lights wise ) i only gave £200 for the car , im hoping it doesnt need to go to the main dealers to be coded up ? |

just an update
ive changed the cluster and now all lights up as it should , im still short of the pin number to adapt the keys though and as the old cluster was fubar i dont have the code number out of that to enter into the other one ,so it looks like it may have to go to the stealers after all .. |

just so you know , its running now , just needed to get the skc with a T-300 key programmer , then sorted the keys and adapted the ecu etc . had to let it reset for 2 hours with the ign on but ok now .
