Default New member, how to change the timingbelt of my '05 Caddy 2.0 Sdi

Hello to all myturbodiesel.com members,

I am a retired Dutch bargee, and live in Burgundy, France.

While searching on the net, how to change the timingbelt of my '05 Caddy 2.0 Sdi, for which I didn't manage to find specific information, I found this very interesting forum. Even if my van isn't a TDI, by the looks of it, I think that all the tips for changing the timingbelt and waterpump are the same.

Cheers,

Peter.

The engine and timing belt routing are different for every generation of engine. If it looks EXACTLY the same, OK but if it is different do NOT follow the instructions here.

Failure of the timing belt will cause severe engine damage.

Thank you very much for your answer chittychittybangbang, I will be very careful with what I'm doing.

I used to be a mechanic in the days before timingbelts were common, there were only gears or sprockets and chains, but since then I've always done the belts on the PSA engines I owned apart from the Hdi on which I had it done.

It's too bad that I haven't been able to find an Sdi-forum, and when I found this forum I was very happy, as the timingbelt on the Tdi and Sdi engines follow the same route, and there's no difference in the partnumbers SKF: VKMC 01250-2

Does anyone know by chance if the crankshaft blocking tool is the same, or if it's a different one, and if so, what would be the part number for that tool.

Thank you very much in advance for your answer,

Peter.

Welcome to the forum Peter.

Well the Caddy 2.0 SDI isn't one of the models I've done yet in Timing Belts App I will look at this model next for you.

There is a difference as they show:

Caddy/Caddy Maxi 2.0D SDI 2003-11 - <05/2005 BDJ, BST
Caddy/Caddy Maxi 2.0D SDI 2003-11 - 06/2005> BDJ, BST

So yours is the year they changed.

Special Tools: <05/2005
Auxiliary drive belt tensioner locking tool - VAG No.T10060
Camshaft sprocket locking tool - VAG No.3359
Camshaft sprocket holding tool - VAG No.T10172
Camshaft sprocket holding pins - VAG No.T10172/4
Crankshaft sprocket locking tool Type A - VAG No.T10050
Crankshaft sprocket locking tool Type B - VAG No.T10100
Tensioner pulley locking pin - VAG No.T10115

Special Tools: 06/2005>
Auxiliary drive belt tensioner locking tool - VAG No.T10060A
Camshaft sprocket locking tool - VAG No.3359
Camshaft sprocket holding tool - VAG No.T10172
Camshaft sprocket holding pins - VAG No.T10172/4
Crankshaft sprocket locking tool - VAG No.T10100
Tensioner pulley locking pin - VAG No.T10265
Tensioning tool - VAG No.T10264

Both BDJ and BST engine codes use the same tools which will depend on the month of 2005 it was made.

Thank you very much for your answer Keith, my Caddy is not the Maxi, but just the panelvan and the exact date of first licencing was Nov 17-2004, (sold as model 2005) engine type BDJ/BST.

If I understand your information correctly, in my case the crankshaft blocking tool could be both, the type A -T10050 or type B- T10100 so I have to buy them both if I don't want to end up with just the wrong one.

Too bad, as I don't like to waist money, even if they're not expensive.

Cheers,

Peter.

The Caddy and Caddy Maxi come under the same classification.

The crankshaft locking tool they made two types so it depends which type is used on your motor.

If yours is Nov 17-2004 then it looks like the first tool list.

Crankshaft sprocket locking tool Type A - VAG No.T10050
Crankshaft sprocket locking tool Type B - VAG No.T10100

Seat use the same Type A and Type B tools if you want to checkout my app. Just check on the special tools for the 2.0 models.

Hi Keith, thanks a lot for your information, it's clear now that without taking the belt off, I won't be able to see which tool I need, as both blocking tools are used on the older models, and it's too risky to only buy one, as with my luck it will be the wrong one, and I'll be stuck.
So I will buy both for the peace of mind.

Thanks again, and have a nice w.e.

Peter.

p.s. I am an ex-bargee and have been living and working on the water since 1973, I am more of a boat than a car freak now. Last summer I was in the U.K. close to your place, as I went to look at a boatbuilder close to S.o.T. in Biddulph named Piper Boats, maybe you know of them, they make nice Dutch barge replica's.

Yes I've heard of Piper Boats but I haven't used them. One of the guys I used to work with had a barge and he lived in Biddulph so he must have used them.

Well so long as you have all the details what is needed to do the timing belt you should be ok, any problems then post again.

I see you haven't downloaded my app?

Hi Keith, sorry to say but I don't know how to download your app, I'm already sort of happy that I can send a mail, there are still many things I have to learn with modern communication machines.

If it's not too difficult to explain, and if you have a bit of time left, could you please try to tell me in easy words how to download your app.

Thank you very much,

Peter.

maybe it's not possible without a smartphone, which I haven't, to see your app.
