Default lost power and knocking

any ideas on this one,my egr valve was completely blocked at the port to inlet manifold,all cleaned and the valve seems in good order.Engine rattles like a valve knock even after valve cleaned.took vacuum line off and no vac even at high revs,vac pipe goes to the egr solenoid valve which also i believe sens a vac to the turbo gate valve/booster.if the combustion was too lean,can this cause the valve knock problem,it has progressed over the last 3 months with max rpm 4500,before the knocking noise it would rev up to 5800.I am going to get a new egr solenoid valve,if anyone has had similar please let ne know

What engine do you have? That can affect things to some degree. It should be on the top of the timing belt cover, on a sticker in the boot or a sticker in the front of the service hand book and it should read something like ALH, AGR, ASV, AJM etc. Oil level staying ok? The egr only comes on at certain times too. Any fault codes stored?
