Default Interesting, new Mazda diesels only 14:1 compression

http://www.mazda.com/mazdaspirit/sky...kyactiv-d.html

Going to aluminum blocks because of the lowered compression, they claim a 25kg drop in engine weight.

OK, now where is my SkyActiv-D Miata!

I'm waiting for a BMW 3 series with 4 cylinder engine but this thing will be very competitive with VW. Mazda is another company with great interiors and their link to Ford is finally broken.

However, the low compression could be a concern if you live in high Colorado in the winter...low compression + cold engine + thick oil and gearbox = not happy.

What happened to the Honda diesel? That looked good, I hope this doesn't go away too.
