Female here, mother of two children: 5 and <1. Just purchased a 2010 Jetta TDI DSG after MONTHS of research - traded in 2004 Jeep Liberty. Reasons for purchase:
- Safety features - More "family friendly" than the Jeep - MPG - Low maintenence - No annual emissions (required in ATL for most cars) - Like the way it drives Last edited by swwill; 02-08-2012 at 11:08 AM. Reason: Added info. |

Well, I'm another girl on here. I have a 2003 jetta tdi, and it's a manual. I'm slowly trying to figure out how to fix my car by myself. I even managed to clean my intake mainfold.

Me. Female. Early 2005 Jetta, stick. Bought new, 177K on it now. My 2nd diesel. First one was a 96 F350 4WD stick. I bought the Jetta because a friend of mine (female) bought a 03 Golf, stick as a commuter car. Also bought new, now has 180K.

Welcome to the forum Barnswallow.
![]() Unusual username for a lady, a Barnswallow is a bird probably not the other meaning. ![]() So you were influenced by your friends 03 Golf thats why you chose a TDI? I see in your other post you show a 58 Triumph TR3A do you still have that car?

A barnswallow is a bird that hangs around barns. Not particularly pretty but they move well. I've been "the barnswallow" in one form or another since high school and cb radio.
No, I don't still have it but I'm fairly active looking for it or another like it. Make a good match for my husbands '69 deuce and a half multifuel. It's a stick with a really weird shift pattern. I always have to yell at him if he drives my car (which is seldom) that he's "deuce shifting". And yes, I can drive it, too. |

Consensus in my house is that if it isn't gas it is diesel and if it is a Diesel, then it isn't gas and that gets somehow more complicated than just pumping gas into a gas tank. It turns into pumping diesel into the fuel tank and what if I can't find a gas station that sells diesel and can I put gas in until I find the diesel and the list goes on. Other indicators are the questions about it sounding like a truck, after all Dad, the big diesel trucks are pretty loud - GLUG - GLUG- GLUG - GLUG - ...... and that will attract attention because I have a loud vehicle and everyone will be looking at me and be overcome with shame... and what if I press on the gas pedal (doesn't miss a beat) and a BIG plume of black smoke comes out? Seems they are the only Diesel cars they recognize are the plumers with a big, blackened, sooty bumper and hind quarter. (you have seen them, usually an older MB) people will point and squawk at me for not being GREEN! All of these and many more can be answered completely but you won't get a female to plunk down their hard earned cash to find out those answers themselves; so you have to show them. We are on the cusp of diesel technology coming into its own as a "Green" fuel. The Clean TDI technology applied judiciously will bring John and Jane Q. Public around to realize this efficiency level is solid and is comparable to the hybrid s of the 21st century.
