Default How do I tell what hp my tdi has?

Hi could someone tell me how to tell how much hp my newly purchased 2004 passat TDI. I live in canada, I dont know if that makes a difference or not. The car is also a wagon, once again not sure if that makes a difference. My reason for asking is that I am looking to try a tuner box and according to their website there are 3 different power output engines for that year.

This is the link to the company that I am looking to purchase from.

Any warnings or info is also greatly appreciated.

Thanks again John

Welcome to the forum John.

You will tell what hp the engine has from the engine code which you can take from the Options sticker which is in the service book. If you don't have the service book the other half of that sticker in on the boot floor next to the spare wheel well.

This one is BWA 147kw engine.

The VIN number is at the top then the model code underneath. Then the model and engine code and at the end is the transmission code JLW. Then the paint code LB9A. Then the rest are p-codes.

If you want to know what all the Options codes mean type them into VW/Audi/Seat/Škoda Option Codes Decoder

The p-codes will tell you the power output.

Well I wouldn't buy a car because there is a good forum that helps with problems but everyone to their own?

So have you found your Options sticker?

Please post your engine code when you find it?

You could also stick it on a dyno and get a true readout of HP at the wheels.
